We were delighted to once again enter a team in the Guildford Pancake Races, which took place on the High Street earlier this month.
This is the 20th anniversary of pancake racing in Guildford, and as you can see from our team photo, the sun came out to mark the day in style. As always, the event raised funds for a local charity, and this year it was the turn of the Mayor of Guildford’s Local Support Fund, a brilliant cause dedicated to helping residents of the Borough that are facing financial challenges.
Our team battled well against 3 other groups but ultimately fell a little short in their efforts to bring the trophy back home to Mandolay. There was no shortage of ‘skulduggery’, with one team disqualified for illegal use of the pan, and failing to stop at the ‘pancake tossing’ line.
A great day was had by all, and despite the result of our race, Mandolay performed brilliantly with team captain, Scarlet marshalling her troops brilliantly, and making sure that everyone certainly looked the part.
A very special mention has to go to Ruby, a last minute replacement in the line-up. Ruby was with us on work-experience and had only joined the day before the race. Despite this, she volunteered straight away, and performed her leg of the race superbly.
Well done to everyone that took part, the money raised will go directly to helping people that really need it, and this was another great example of Guildford businesses putting on a wonderful show in the bright spring sunshine.
