In the Community
Independent in spirit, The Mandolay Hotel is proud of its position Close to the Heart of Guildford We do not see helping as a responsibility, it is in fact a privilege to be in a position to play an active role in our community and whilst we cannot help everybody, we do contribute to a broad spectrum of local and national good causes, charities and appeals. This contribution takes many forms, and on this page we are delighted to highlight some of the more creative ways that we have chosen to show our support.
Mandolay Marvels
Our very own way of celebrating the true superhero’s, the unsung and the selfless. Every month we ask for nominations to receive a special ‘prize’ of a wonderful night here at The Mandolay, Dinner, Bed and Breakfast for two is on us as we say thank you to someone special.
We take nominations from charities, good causes, the armed forces, emergency services, hospitals and hospices, in fact anywhere that you feel deserves a little extra recognition.
Of course, we receive lots of nominations and we can’t accommodate everyone but if there is somebody that you would like to suggest, please contact us via guest.relations@mandolay.com
Challengers
Challengers help families across Surrey, Hampshire and West Sussex by providing truly inclusive, fun and safe places where all disabled children and young people can spend time with their friends.
We are delighted to support Challengers as our ‘Charity of the Year 2020’, as part of their business club and in helping to raise awareness of the wonderful work they so tirelessly undertake on behalf of our community.
World’s Biggest Coffee Morning
A firm favourite with the entire team here at The Mandolay, we host a World’s Biggest Coffee Morning every year, with staff making and bringing in their own cakes for sale, a really fun way to help raise funds for the remarkable Macmillan Nurses…a great cause and cake, what’s not to love!
The Prince’s Countryside Fund
We really didn’t know how effective the initiative would be, but our guests and diners in the restaurant really warmed to it and we were soon handing over a ‘giant cheque’. This is the third year of the ‘Prince’s Selection’ wine promotion and we are delighted to say that we’ll be handing over an even bigger cheque in a few months.
Mind
As a busy, first class hotel we are delighted to offer cloakroom facilities for our many guests and we ask for a £1.00 voluntary donation for its use to store luggage, every penny of the money raised goes directly to Mind.
Free Christmas Lunch
The Gaskin family source the ingredients, cook and even deliver the 3 course lunches directly to houses and institutions, helped by a will team of around 20 volunteer drivers. In previous years they have hosted large community events, but recently, thanks to Covid they have added home delivery to their astonishingly kind offering.
Hospitality Action
A team of trustees, patrons and volunteers offer help with issues such as mental health wellbeing, career advice and even financial support for workers at every level and in every part of our industry.
We are proud to help the work of this remarkable organisation.
