On March 20th, respected broadcaster, writer and journalist Adrian Chiles used his regular (and usually brilliant) column in The Guardian to launch a bitter attack on ‘bedspreads and cushions’.
What, you might wonder has Adrian got against cushions?
Our managing director, Matthew was asked to take up the defence of ‘bed furniture’ on the BBC, and we were delighted that the vast majority of people agreed with him.
‘Cushions, and throws can add a splash of colour and an air of luxury to a bedroom. Here at Mandolay we take pride in making our rooms look, and feel beautiful, our soft furnishings are sourced from the finest retailers, and of course our bed linen is not just good, it is Royal Warrant standard.’
But, as Matthew was keen to point out, we do appreciate that cushions, throws and bedspreads are not to everyone’s taste.
‘I would like to point out to Adrian, and all other hotel users that additional cushions are not compulsory, and anyone that does not like or need them simply has to ask, and they will be removed for the duration of their stay’.
It seems pretty clear to us that cushions are here to stay, as Matthew explains.
‘As a four star hotel we are always looking for ways to improve what we have to call ‘the guest experience’. Little touches like flavoured popcorn in every room, complimentary coffee on departure, and yes, high quality cushions and bed linen all add to our service.’
