Welcome to our monthly round-up of events and live performances taking place in and around our beautiful town in August, as ever, there is plenty on offer for all ages, and most tastes.

We will begin with our great friends at the wonderful Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, who have a month of workshops and drama camps in store for young performers, and those looking to begin a career in the theatre.

We really admire the dedication of the Yvonne Arnaud for organising these events, theatre and the performing arts are for everybody, and anybody to enjoy and participate in. You can see the full programme, covering drama workshops, and introductions to Lighting Design, and Direction here.

And, a quick heads up for later in the year, when the Yvonne Arnaud will be hosting Cluedo 2, the hit whodunit show based on the classic board game, you can book tickets here.

Just over the road from Mandolay is the fabulous GLive entertainment venue, we really are lucky to have such a wonderful attraction practically on our doorstep, and as always they have a packed month ahead.

Horrible Histories can fairly be described as a phenomenon, bringing history to life (often with the sort of grisly detail that children love). On Monday 19th of August the team bring their Rotten Royals to Guildford, exposing all the darkest secrets of ‘revolting rulers, and mad monarchs from Britain’s barmy past’.

Friday 23rd of August sees GLive transformed to welcome Cirque the Greatest Show to town. Musical theatre meets circus in a spectacular show for all the family, promising a truly unforgettable experience!

And another heads up for two shows that will sell out, on Wednesday September 18th national treasure Michael Palin will be appearing with There and Back, the Diary Tour.  The night before it’s the turn of the fabulously outrageous Dawn French to hit the stage in a show that we can’t really mention the name of…but here are the details!

Stoke Park is hosting Foodies Festival from August 30th until September 1st, There’s live music from Sister Sledge and Blue, as well as cookery demonstrations from celebrity chefs, an artisan market, and demonstrations a-plenty. This promises to be a great weekend, so book your tickets now!

Just a couple of miles outside Guildford is the stunning West Horsley Place, location of the hit TV show ‘Ghosts’. They will be hosting events and talks throughout the summer, including an opportunity to ‘meet’ Henry VIII, and hear all about his time in the house.

And finally, did you know that Guildford has its own Lido? Set in four and a half acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, the Lido is hugely popular with locals and visitors, you can check out opening times and facilities here.
